2019 monthly challenge; February

At the start of the year I gave myself a list of things I wanted to do every single month of 2019. I wanted to make the most of each month rather than just rushing through each week. As March begins and February ends I can happily say that I managed to cross everything off again! and decided to add a few.

February is such a short month it’s disappeared so quickly.

Have 1 lazy day.

Long live the lazy day! Sometimes it’s just needed. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the idea that you have to be busy, doing things and getting stuff done. But sometimes it’s okay to just watch TV, blog, read a book and relax. It feels good to have a lay in, drink TV and nap.

Try something new.

I have been wanting to try those cloth face masks for ages. So I tried the Simple masks at the start of the moth and I absolutely loved them. My skin felt amazing afterwards and looked really good to. I’ll definitely keep going with them.

Visit a new place & Walk a “different” dog walk.

I combined the two this time as it was a extra special dog walk. We visited Arne, the RSPB nature reserve for a walk with Dorset Dogs.

Dorset Dogs is an organisation that plans and takes dog walkers on guided walks all over Dorset. It was a little scary for me because there was going to be a lot of walkers and a lot of dogs! I was pretty concerned as you are never really sure how well these things will go, it all depends on how the dogs are feeling on the day. And it was lots of dogs and people I didn’t know which is always difficult. Dogs won’t judge you but people will!

Arne was so, so beautiful. I can’t believe I’ve never been before especially as we have lived here awhile. Such a wonderful place for a dog walk, or even just a no dog walk (what’s one of those!?) . Dogs have to be on the lead because it’s a nature reserve and there are ground nesting birds, but there is so much to look at and of course so much to sniff that it’s not a problem! In fact Duke didn’t seem bothered at all.

We had a great time, Duke was well behaved and we ended up having a really enjoyable day in a new place.

There’s a lovely little cafe there too. It’s in a really beautiful area, the food was lovely and there’s even a little gift shop. The toilets were also nice and clean which is what you need when your out walking!

Treat myself to something small.

I bought the most amazing shirt ! New look have some amazing clothes at the moment and I found this lovely green checker shirt. I think it was only £14 which is a bit of a bargain as it’s a really nice shape, size and weight. It’s good to treat yourself. It is especially nice when things are still a little difficult at the moment. A little treat is sometimes the boost needed!

How lovely is this shirt though? It’s a great dog walk/ outdoors day shirt. And it looks great with wellies!

Cross something off my “Bucket list”.

A small fitness related goal: to be able to do 20 proper conservative press ups. I love my bucket list so it feels great to cross thing off .

Watch a new film.

We didn’t manage a new film but we watched a new series: Nightflyer.

Which was quite frankly bizarre. It’s written by the same man who wrote Game of thrones so as you can imagine most people die. Think a Space Oddessy crossed with something involving psychics. I can’t even think of a comparison it was that bizarre. But pretty good. Weird but interesting. Definitely something to binge watch in one go as you have to try and remember what’s going on!

Cook a new recipe.

Finally managed to get myself back into baking. I lost interest last year and haven’t really baked much since. This month I made white chocolate and raspberry muffins. They must have been okay because they went down a treat at work. They were really easy to make; buttermilk, flour, eggs, white chocolate, raspberries, a pinch of salt and that’s it! I think. It was a bit of a Frankenstein recipe i just took bits from one recipe and bits from another. It was so random I can’t even remember it.

Run a new route.

I’ve been struggling to get out and run, but Duke and I did a little run together. He did pretty well. He was such a good boy he managed to keep pace with me really well. Not running too fast or too slow. I definitely need to find a running partner.

Download and listen to a new song.

I’m a little obsessed with the song on the iPhone advert “Come along” by Cosmo Sheldrake. The lyrics are so much fun, I love the song so much I downloaded it and the album. The songs sound like they come from an Alice in wonderland like world, they are all quirky, interesting and fun. I love love love the album.

Visit family or have family come to visit us.

Duke and I went to meet my Dad, Step mum and their lovely puppy Lulu. It was realy lovely to see them and great for Duke and lulu to finally meet. We had a fun walk and stopped for tea and a toasted tea cakes at the Morton tea room, which is my favourite place at the moment, I do love a dog friendly tea room.

Both dogs got very muddy. Both needed a bath!

Family are important, it’s far too easy to forget to make time for each other. This year is going to be much more family focused!

This list has been so good, it’s inspired me to try and make the most of each day (as cliche as that one sounds). Although I think the list is missing two things; I’ve decided to add…

Listen to a song I haven’t heard in a while.

Do something that scares me.

to next months list.

The creation of this little challenge was because 2018 was such a rushed year for us, we just kept waiting for the year to be over as it had been such a difficult one, wishing it away. I wanted to take more time to have fun, experience as much as possible and to not rush through each month. I want to actually enjoy 2019, for Karl and I, and of course Duke, to have as much fun as possible.

This month has been challenging, which is a word that keeps popping up this year. Every week seems to throw challenges at us. But, it’s also had its greatness and it’s fun.
